About 80 beneficiary institutions were trained in Environmental and Social Management

More than 80 representatives of partner entities in the implementation of World Bank-financed projects in Cape Verde linked to the education sector, social inclusion, digital economy, health, tourism, energy, business development, and entities that work directly in the environment sector, both at central and local level, participated in the training session and sharing of best practices in environmental and social management of projects that took place in Praia from November 14 to 18.

The training reinforces the implementation of environmental and social commitments bound in the financing agreement and that stem from the WB’s Environmental and Social Policy.

This initiative also ensured the sharing of World Bank experiences in other neighboring countries and that can be absorbed by the country, regarding implementation methodologies of the environmental and social 10 standards, related to Stakeholders involvement.

With this training it is expected that the beneficiary institutions are better informed about the environmental and social requirements and instruments associated with WB-financed projects and can, in articulation with UGPE, operationalize the safeguards under their responsibilities, as well as establish a schedule of activities for 2023.

The sessions were led by UGPE’s Environmental and Social Specialists, Neiva Centeio and Larissa Varela, and by WB consultants Santiago Olmos, Edda Smith and Lorina Schudel.

In addition to the beneficiary institutions, managers of UGPE projects funded by the World Bank participated in this training.
