As part of the Project to Improve the Connectivity of Urban Infrastructures, financed by the World Bank, the Ministry of Tourism and Transport and the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) of the Ministry of Finance and Business Development are holding a workshop in Praia on January 30 and 31, 2025, dedicated to presenting and discussing the revision of the package of legal and regulatory proposals and initiatives for the civil aviation sector, with the aim of presenting and debating the proposed changes to the rules governing the sector.
The opening ceremony, held this morning, January 30, was attended by various authorities and experts in the sector, as well as speeches by Indira Campos, World Bank representative in Cape Verde, and Zilca Paiva, Director General of the Air Economy, who detailed the context and objectives of the consultancy responsible for the review.
As the organization responsible for the direct management of Component 3 of the project, which aims to strengthen institutional and technical capacities in Cape Verde for more efficient and sustainable urban and transport management, the UGPE was represented by Coordinator Nuno Gomes and technical expert Malene Almeida.

The workshop program includes thematic sessions on the main changes to economic and operational regulations, with detailed explanations of the justifications for each amendment and the proposal for new laws. The debates will take place throughout the day, interspersed with breaks for networking and informal discussions on the topics covered.
On the second day, the event will continue with a session dedicated to feedback on administrative regulation, followed by the presentation of the conclusions and recommendations drawn from the discussions.
With the participation of national and international experts, the workshop aims to contribute significantly to the modernization of the regulatory framework for the civil aviation sector in Cape Verde, promoting a safer, more efficient and more conducive environment for the development of aviation in the country.
