UGPE meets with World Bank team to discuss status of the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project

The World Bank mission to follow up on the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project, made up of specialists, met this Tuesday afternoon, May 23rd, with the team from the Special Projects Management Unit, in order to analyze the progress, constraints and challenges in the project implementation process.

 

The UGPE as responsible for the implementation of aspects of financial management, procurement and disbursement was represented at the meeting by the project manager, the financial director, the procurement department, environmental and social monitoring and evaluation specialists, and the civil engineer.

 

Note that already in its first year of implementation, the project includes several activities, including the rehabilitation of the Sta. Maria /Espargos road, Pontão de Santa Maria, among others, and are directly followed and monitored by UGPE through the manager, in close harmony with the project beneficiaries.

 

During the mission, which runs from May 23rd to May 30th, the World Bank team will hold several meetings with key Government stakeholders and development partners in the area of Tourism and the Blue Economy, as well as project beneficiaries with the objective under the additional financing, (i) to assess the performance of the project to date, (ii) to identify potential areas for improvement, and (iii) to continue discussions on investment opportunities for a second additional financing.

 

The Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project aims to increase diversity and resilience in the tourism offer and the participation of SMEs in tourism-related value chains in specific destinations.
