The Mayor of Paul, Adilson Silva Fernandes, accompanied by the Councillor for Urbanism and Infrastructure, Keiton Rodrigues, met on Tuesday morning, January 14, with the Coordinator of the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), Nuno Gomes, and the manager of the Resilient Tourism and Development of the Blue Economy Project, Aguinaldo Marçal. The aim of the meeting was to align strategies to boost the project’s activities in the municipality of Paul.
“It is with great satisfaction that we met today to define clear strategies, with the aim of maximizing and optimizing the resources available, ensuring that each investment has the greatest possible impact for local communities and the sustainable development of the island,” said Coordinator Nuno Gomes, stressing the importance of collaboration between the parties involved for the success of the project.
This meeting symbolized the beginning of a partnership between the City Council and the UGPE, with a view to strengthening collaboration between the institutions and speeding up the implementation of the planned activities. “We are aware that efficient communication and the creation of favorable conditions for carrying out activities are fundamental. Our priority is therefore to promote the enhancement of infrastructures and the training of local companies,” added Nuno Gomes.
The Coordinator also stressed that by working together, the institutions ensure that the planned interventions bring concrete benefits to the population, boosting tourism, the local economy and people’s well-being.
During the meeting, the project manager, Aguinaldo Marçal, presented the state of play of the activities in Santo Antão, with an emphasis on the actions underway in the municipality of Paul. Priority initiatives were discussed, such as the upgrading of side roads, which are essential for the development of tourism, and the construction and rehabilitation of infrastructure for the well-being of the community. The need to promote the autonomy of local businesses was also discussed, thus increasing the positive impact of the project.
Paúl’s new municipal team, represented by President Paul Adilson Silva Fernandes, expressed their thanks to the UGPE for its willingness to receive them, thus allowing a detailed analysis of ongoing activities. The President stressed the importance of ensuring the effective implementation of the actions in the municipality and suggested that, should there be a need for adjustments to the budget earmarked for these activities, it would be essential to consider these changes for the success of the project.
