UGPE presents the status of Component 3 within the scope of the mission to support the implementation of the PMCIU

On Friday afternoon, October 3, the Special Projects Management Unit presented the status of Component 3 of the Urban Connectivity and Infrastructure Improvement Project (PMCIU) at a meeting that was part of the project’s Implementation Support Mission program, which is taking place from October 1 to 9, 2025, on the islands of Santiago, São Vicente, and Santo Antão.

The presentation was made by UGPE technical specialist Malene Almeida, who highlighted the current status of activities underway and the next steps planned under UGPE’s responsibility. Also participating in the meeting on behalf of UGPE were coordinator Nuno Gomes, project manager César Pinto, and the World Bank technical team.

The mission’s program includes a diverse agenda that includes:
• technical and plenary meetings to analyze the status of the different components;
• sessions with institutional partners, addressing topics such as additional financing, infrastructure sustainability, and monitoring indicators;
• field visits to Santiago, São Vicente, and Santo Antão to monitor the progress of ongoing urban redevelopment and road connection works;
• high-level meetings with members of the government and sectoral entities to align strategies and define the next steps for project implementation.

It should be noted that the management of the PMCIU is divided between the Ministry of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, and Housing (MIOTH) – responsible for Components 1, 2, and 4.1 and for overall coordination – and the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), responsible for Components 3 and 4.2.
