Second Mission to Support the Implementation of the Project to Improve Connectivity and Urban Infrastructure in Cape Verde

Today, September 23, saw the start of the Second Implementation Support Mission for the Project to Improve Connectivity and Urban Infrastructure in Cape Verde (PMCIU), a project financed to the tune of 40 million USD by the World Bank. This project aims to improve urban infrastructure and connectivity, with a special focus on resilience to climate change.

The Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), responsible for managing Component 3 of the PMCIU, accompanied by technical specialist Malene Almeida, includes technical assistance and capacity building activities, with an emphasis on adapting to climate change and improving urban infrastructure.

During the mission, which runs until September 27, the World Bank team, together with representatives of the Cape Verde government, including the National Planning Directorate (DNP) and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing (MIOTH), responsible for managing the PMCIU, will assess the progress of activities and discuss priority issues such as:

  • Review of Contractual Obligations: Assessing compliance with the clauses of the credit agreement, six months into its term.
  • Progress and Resolution of Challenges: Discussing progress in the execution of the project and finding solutions to any obstacles, especially those related to environmental and social areas.
  • Technical Assistance: Supervise the progress of technical assistance work on Component 3, ensuring that the areas of transportation and urban management progress according to the established standards.
  • Planning for 2025: Establish the work plan for the coming year, focusing on disbursement forecasts and the next steps for implementation.

The mission, led by Philippe Neves, Senior Transport Specialist, and Cláudia Soto, Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist, has a multidisciplinary team that will provide technical support and oversee the progress of ongoing actions.
