Kick-off meeting of the mission to support the implementation and additional funding of the Digital Cape Verde Project

As part of the Mission to Support the Implementation and Additional Financing of the Digital Cape Verde Project, which runs from January 21 to 31, 2025, important technical meetings are being held to assess progress and define strategies for implementing the project.

The kick-off meeting of the mission took place on the morning of Tuesday, January 21, and was attended by the National Planning Director, Gilson Pina, the team from the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) and the Directorate-General for Telecommunications and Digital Economy (DGTED). The aim of the meeting was to align strategies and actions to ensure the success of the mission and the fulfillment of the project’s objectives.

The National Planning Director emphasized the strategic importance of the Single Portal, an initiative designed to digitize the main government processes and eliminate the duplication of document requests in the public administration, promoting greater efficiency and transparency.

On the other hand, the World Bank stressed the need for a solid commitment from the government and all stakeholders to ensure strict compliance with the deadlines and objectives set. This commitment is essential to ensure the qualitative progress of the project and achieve the expected results.

The UGPE, represented by Coordinator Nuno Gomes and project manager Guevara Cruz, plays a key role in coordinating activities. In addition to ensuring alignment with the fiduciary and safeguard standards established by the World Bank, #UGPE is active in identifying and overcoming critical challenges during implementation.

Central to this mission are :
– reviewing the project’s progress towards meeting the Project Development Objective (PDO);
– supporting project implementation, prioritizing the resolution of difficulties and delays in key activities, such as signing contracts and increasing disbursements;
– preparing the documents and requirements for additional financing and the extension of the project, in accordance with the World Bank’s guidelines for IPF Additional Financing.

During this mission, priority will be given to a detailed analysis of the challenges faced, with a focus on identifying solutions that will ensure the continuity and success of ongoing initiatives.

With this collaborative and focused approach, the Government of Cape Verde and its partners reaffirm their commitment to the country’s digital transformation and sustainable development.
