Opening meeting of the Mission to Support the Implementation of the Project to Harmonize and Improve Statistics in West Africa

The opening session, led by the National Planning Director, Gilson Pina, and the Coordinator of the Special Projects Management Unit, Nuno Gomes, took place on Monday, October 2.

During the meeting, the main activities of the project were discussed in a stocktaking format, which will be analyzed throughout this mission. The aim is to develop affirmative action to speed up the project’s implementation.

The meeting was attended by the President of the National Institute of Statistics, the Project Manager for the Harmonization and Improvement of Statistics in West Africa, the World Bank’s statistical economist Djibril Ndoye and Andrea Martins, a technician from the DNP’s Resource Mobilization Service.

This mission, which will last from October 2 to 6, 2023, has two main objectives: to carry out the mid-term review of the project and to provide additional implementation support, with a view to resolving remaining procurement issues and delays in key activities.

During these five days, in addition to the reviews and implementation support, several meetings with beneficiaries are scheduled. These interactions not only aim to strengthen statistical capacities in the region, but also to ensure that the project effectively meets the specific needs of local beneficiaries.

At the end of the mission, a comprehensive memorandum, the result of these meetings and the review, will be shared with the government and stakeholders. This is a practical and collaborative step towards Cape Verde’s economic development, with a focus on the needs of the beneficiaries.
