A delegation led by the Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, visited Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, in the municipality of Porto Novo – Santo Antão, on July 26, to share with the local community the project to rehabilitate the coastal area of Tarrafal e Monte Trigo and Monte Trigo.
During the visit, the coordinator of the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), Nuno Gomes, presented the project, stating that the redevelopment works should be carried out in 14 months and could be completed between the end of 2026 and the beginning of 2027.
This project is part of the Resilient Tourism and Development of the Blue Economy project and is funded by the World Bank. It includes a 1 km road, the requalification of the seafront and the construction of anchorages in Monte Trigo and Tarrafal, with the aim of improving the conditions for mooring boats and facilitating tourist transportation.
This government investment in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo and Monte Trigo totals CVE 365,000,000 and is being carried out in two stages:
– Stage 1 (studies): US$ 250,000 (CVE 25,000,000)
– Stage 2 (works): US$ 3,400,000 (CVE 340,000,000)
Consultancy work is currently underway to draw up a detailed plan for the area and the project to carry out the redevelopment, which will include protection of the coastal zone, construction of the Ponta de Atum – Praia road section and the construction of two docks.
