World Bank Supervision Mission monitors implementation of health projects in Cape Verde

Between October 22 and 30, a mission is being carried out to support the implementation of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Project and the Health Security Project in West and Central Africa (HeSP), financed by the World Bank, as part of its partnership with the Government of Cape Verde. The mission covers the islands of São Vicente, Santo Antão, and Santiago and includes field visits and technical meetings aimed at assessing the progress of ongoing activities and strengthening coordination between the institutions involved in the implementation of the two projects.

After visiting health facilities on the islands of São Vicente, Santo Antão, and Santiago, the team held a series of technical meetings in the city of Praia, involving key partner entities. Working sessions were held with the World Bank Resident Representative in Cape Verde, the Ministry of Finance, through the National Planning Directorate (DNP), and the Ministry of Health, with the aim of analyzing the status of activities, identifying challenges, and aligning the next steps in the financial and technical implementation framework. In the coming days, the mission will continue with thematic meetings focused on reviewing the 2025 Work Plans and Annual Budget (PTOA) and preparing those for 2026. A feedback session with national authorities and a learning event dedicated to sharing technical knowledge on HeSP’s areas of intervention are also planned, with the participation of the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Public Health (INSP), the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA), and the World Bank team. The mission is composed of a multidisciplinary team of experts in health, social development, financial management, procurement, environment, and infrastructure.
