The Special Projects Management Unit in partnership with the National Directorate of Planning met this Monday with the World Bank team that is in Cabo Verde for a mission under the “Project for Resilient Tourism Development and Blue Economy. This first technical committee meeting aimed to present the 2022 activity plan.
It should be noted that this project is intended to increase the geographical scope and depth of tourism’s contribution to the economy in a sustainable way, involving a wide range of beneficiaries across civil society, and the private and public sectors in Cabo Verde.
The project’s components include infrastructure, capacity building and training of agents, training of small and medium-sized companies, increasing the sector’s resilience and diversification, and also addressing issues related to energy and the treatment of urban and solid waste, as well as the enhancement of heritage.
Therefore, the mission’s objective is to help the authorities to monitor the status of establishment of institutional arrangements for project implementation, including the creation of the Project’s Technical Committee; discuss and adjust the draft 2022 work plan with all beneficiaries; discuss the process of acquiring key activities, namely infrastructure works in the four islands of intervention of the project; and conduct an official presentation and launch meeting of PROBLUE – Small Island Developing States (SIDS) related to the Circular Economy Assessment Study.
The mission led by Ms. Cristina Navarrete, Senior Private Sector Specialist, runs until September 14, and has scheduled a visit to the islands of Santo Antão, São Vicente, and Sal.
