A World Bank team, led by the Senior Transport Specialist, Philippe Neves, started on February 13th, the preparation mission for the Project to Improve Connectivity and Urban Infrastructure in Cape Verde.
In preparation phase, this mission had as main purpose to discuss the preparation of the above mentioned project, in the following aspects strengthen the work on designing and prioritizing the activities within the framework of proposed interventions; advance with the preparation of the Project Appraisal Document (PAD); discuss pending arrangements to advance the project preparation (PPA) in an effective way and agree on the next steps to ensure the smooth implementation; ensure that the project preparation is in line with the Bank’s Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), and that the design of the Financial Management and Procurement instruments is adapted to the needs of the project and at the same time adapted to the World Bank requirements.
In order to discuss the objectives of the mission and the arrangements for the implementation of this project, several meetings were held from February 13 to 17 with technical teams from beneficiary institutions and stakeholders in the process of making this project effective.
In addition to the meetings held, the delegation was this Thursday, February 16, visiting Santa Catarina, for a meeting with President Jassira Monteiro and her team, and for a visit to the road Pingo Chuva – Saltos and locality of Rincão, in order to assess the challenges of the subprojects that will start in a first phase.
The Special Projects Management Unit was represented in these activities by the Coordinator, Nuno Gomes, environmental specialists, Neiva Centeio and Larissa Varela, Financial Director, José Andrade, and Procurement, Irenalina Vicente. With emphasis on the preparation of the Project Appraisal Document (PAD), and other documents that ensure compliance with the Environmental and Social Framework, Financial Management, and Procurement.
It should be noted that this World Bank team during this course will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Infrastructure, Planning and Housing (MIOTH), Special Project Management Unit (UGPE), Cape Verde Roads, and Cape Verde Infrastructures.
