On Thursday, September 18, the Government of Cape Verde launched Additional Financing for the Human Capital Project, in the amount of US$3.75 million, aimed at improving access to quality childcare services.
The official ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Olavo Correia and Minister of Family, Inclusion, and Social Development Fernando Elísio Freire. The Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) was represented by Coordinator Nuno Gomes and Human Capital Project Manager Clarisse Silva.
The funding, which is part of Component 6 of the Human Capital Project financed by the World Bank, provides for the construction, rehabilitation, and equipping of 32 childcare centers and nurseries, the training of professionals in the field, and the granting of subsidies to vulnerable families for access to nurseries.
The interventions will cover 11 municipalities on the islands of Sal, Boa Vista, São Vicente, and Santiago, with an implementation deadline of March 2027.
According to the government, the goal is to strengthen the childcare network, allowing children to have access to quality services, while at the same time enabling families, particularly women, to better integrate into the labor market and increase their income.
