Government of Cape Verde presents proposed National Strategy for 5G

On September 10, 2025, the Government of Cape Verde, through the World Bank-funded Digital Cape Verde Project, hosted a public event dedicated to the future of the country’s telecommunications sector.

The meeting brought together operators, regulators, government entities, international partners, and private sector companies, providing a platform for dialogue on the current state of 4G/5G networks, the evolution of terrestrial and submarine fiber optic infrastructure, and the main lines of the National Strategy for #5G, developed with the contribution of international experts.

The program included thematic sessions, the official presentation of the proposal, and a panel with representatives from the public and private sectors, focusing on strengthening cooperation, exploring opportunities to position Cape Verde as a regional digital hub, and promoting sustainable and inclusive expansion of telecommunications.

The Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) — the entity responsible for the fiduciary management of the Cabo Verde Digital Project — was represented by the project manager, Guevara Cruz, and supports the Directorate-General for Telecommunications and the Digital Economy (DGTED) in promoting this initiative.
