Training on GBV, EAS/AS, VCC, and occupational safety reinforces a culture of prevention in the construction sector

A training session held on September 26, 2025, at the IIPC office in Cidade Velha, brought together twenty workers involved in the rehabilitation of the São Sebastião neighborhood in the municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago.

The initiative is part of the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project, Rehabilitation of the São Sebastião neighborhood in Cidade Velha and focused on the prevention of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (SEAH), violence against children (VAC), as well as topics related to health, hygiene, and safety at work, labor rights, protection of cultural heritage, and complaint management mechanisms.

The main objective was to raise awareness among workers about the different forms of violence and the importance of a culture of prevention, providing practical information on how to identify and respond to risky situations. Participants were also made aware of the Project’s Complaints Management Mechanism and the importance of the correct use of personal protective equipment, community protection, accident prevention, and ensuring decent conditions in the workplace.

Promoted in partnership between the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG), the General Directorate of Labor (DGT), and the General Labor Inspectorate (IGT), this activity is part of the Environmental and Social Safeguards of projects managed by UGPE and financed by the World Bank.

In attendance were specialists from UGPE, Neiva Centeio (Environmental and Social) and Ermelinda Lima (Social), from ICIEG, Vera Teixeira, from IIPC, Admilson Mendes, and from IGT, Eneida Pereira.
