Working meeting to analyze the implementation of Component 3 of the Improving Urban Connectivity and Infrastructure Project

As part of the Mission to Support the Implementation of the Project to Improve Connectivity and Urban Infrastructure in Cape Verde, on Wednesday, April 2, the World Bank team held a working meeting with the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) to analyze the state of implementation of Component 3 of the project.

The meeting was attended by UGPE Coordinator Nuno Gomes, Technical Specialist Malene Almeida and Procurement Officer Ailine Fernandes, as well as Project Manager César Pinto, from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing (MIOTH).

During the meeting, the status of Component 3 was presented and progress in implementing the planned activities was discussed. The presentation was given by the Technical Specialist, Malene Almeida, who highlighted the main challenges and progress made in implementing the project, in line with the established objectives.

The mission runs from March 31 to April 4, 2025 and its main objectives are to analyze the progress of the different components of the project, support its implementation and address issues related to environmental, social and connectivity aspects.

 

This project, financed by the World Bank to the tune of 40 million US dollars, aims to improve access to urban infrastructure and strengthen the resilience of transport to climate change in strategic areas. Made up of five components, the project aims to:
– Strengthen the resilience of urban and community infrastructures;
– Improve the connectivity and resilience of transport services;
– Provide technical assistance to strengthen the management capacity of the transport sector.

The overall management of the project is the responsibility of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing (MIOTH), which coordinates Components 1, 2 and 4.1, while the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) leads Component 3 and Subcomponent 4.2.
