As part of the preparations for the land registry project on the island of Santiago, a meeting was held on Tuesday, November 14, with the local councils and other institutions involved in the process. The aim was to discuss crucial issues for the start of the cadastre, scheduled for March 2024.
With an estimated investment of 400,000 escudos, this initiative is part of the West African Statistics Harmonization Project of the National Statistics Institute (INE), funded by the World Bank.
The event was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Olavo Correia, the Minister of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing, Eunice Lopes, and the Minister of Justice, Joana Rosa. Also present were representatives of the National Institute for Territorial Management (INGT), the Special Projects Management Unit, the Municipalities, the Association of Cape Verde Municipalities, the National Statistics Institute and the company carrying out the Cadastre.
It is important to note that the Operation of the Land Registry is an initiative of the Government of Cape Verde which aims to collect data that characterizes and identifies each piece of land or property in a given area, whether it is privately or publicly owned, such as by the State or the Municipal Council.
It is an administrative record comprising detailed information, including graphic representation, physical and economic elements, identifying and characterizing real estate (rural and urban) throughout the national territory.
