Social and Gender Dynamics in ICTs framed in the Evaluation of the WebLab I Project 1st phase

The Special Projects Management Unit, as fiduciary manager of the Cabo Verde Digital project, and having attributions to implement environmental and social safeguards, carries out in partnership with the Operational Nucleus for the Information Society (NOSI) and the National Directorate of Education (DNE), Social and Gender Dynamics in ICTs framed in the Evaluation of the WebLab I Project – 1st phase, Cabo Verde 2021 and the Definition of the conceptual model for the 2nd Phase of WebLab II.

These dynamics took place between October 26 and 28 in a group of three high school classes, girls and boys aged 14 to 18, with the objective of analyzing the contributions or gender barriers in the functioning of Weblab.

It should be noted that project activities must meet the project’s environmental and social commitments, which dictate the following:

  1. that Weblab contributes to reducing the barriers for girls and women and women-led businesses to access ICT,
  2. that the notion of circular economy, recycling of raw materials, and waste electrical and electronic equipment recycling experiences be incorporated into the WebLab program, or that these aspects be considered in the definition of the new WebLab II conceptual model.

The Cabo Verde Digital Project has a national scope and is being implemented under the aegis of the World Bank’s new Environmental and Social Framework (ESF), whose environmental and social commitments linked to the project include ensuring gender equity and equality, in a transversal way, throughout its execution.

The government is committed to strengthening the foundations of Cabo Verde’s digital competitiveness and improving the supply of digital public services through the implementation of the Cabo Verde Digital Project, with funding from the World Bank. To this end, it plans to place its activities on the following pillars: (i) accelerating Digital Transformation (ii) making Cabo Verde a regional hub in the middle of the Atlantic and (iii) boosting Africa’s digital transformation and ensuring its full participation in the global digital economy.
