The European Commission today gave equivalence to the covid-19 certificates issued in Cabo Verde, and the country is now connected to the European Union (EU) system of recognition of these documents.
The covid-19 certificates issued by national health authorities will now be accepted under the same conditions as the EU covid-19 digital certificate, attesting to vaccination, the validity of a negative PCR test or recovery from disease. The documents issued by a member state will also be recognized in Cabo Verde for the appropriate purposes.
In addition to Cabo Verde, the EU executive also decided to give equivalence to the covid-19 certificates issued by Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates.
Covid-19 has caused at least 5,278,777 deaths worldwide, among more than 267.22 million infections with the new coronavirus recorded since the pandemic began, according to the most recent assessment by Agence France-Presse.
The respiratory disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China, and currently with variants identified in several countries.
A new variant, Omicron, classified as “worrisome” by the World Health Organization (WHO), was detected in Southern Africa, and since the South African health authorities gave the alert on November 24, infections have been reported in 57 countries on all continents, including Portugal.
