Signing of the Memorandum of Collaboration between the UGPE and the Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment

Within the framework of the Cape Verde Technology Park Project, the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) and the Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for Praia, São Domingos and Ribeira Grande de Santiago signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) on July 30, with the aim of providing technical advice to the Cape Verde Technology Park on the implementation and maintenance of its gardens.

The agreement was signed by Nuno Gomes, UGPE Coordinator João Vieira and the Delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment for Praia, São Domingos and Ribeira Grande de Santiago.

The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Carlos Monteiro, and the Non-Executive Director, Carlos Delgado.

The purpose of this MoU is to establish an agreement between the parties for the implementation of environmental and social safeguard activities within the scope of the Cape Verde Technology Park II Project. The planned activities include:

1. Establishment of a significant urban green area by 2025, prioritizing species that are more adaptable to local conditions and Cape Verde’s soil and climate characteristics.
2. Treatment and safe reuse of 200 m³/day of the wastewater generated at the Technology Park by 2025, ensuring sustainable management of water resources.
3. Design and maintenance of an automatic climate action recording system in the Technology Park until 2025, with simultaneous communication on the project’s virtual channels, ensuring transparency and continuous monitoring of climate conditions.

Through this collaboration, the UGPE and the Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment reaffirm their commitment to promoting environmental and social sustainability in the country, contributing to a greener and more resilient future.

It should be noted that climate change and its threats are one of the greatest challenges facing humanity today. Cape Verde is no exception, as it is one of the most vulnerable countries in Africa, and climate change is one of the biggest challenges to sustainability.
