At the beginning of this month, work began on rehabilitating the trails on Santo Antão in the municipalities of Porto Novo, Paúl and Ribeira Grande, with the aim of boosting tourism on the island. These actions are part of the Resilient Tourism and Development of the Blue Economy Project and the work will last four months.
The work in Porto Novo includes various routes, such as the revitalization of four different trails: Ribeira da Cruz/ Clementinho/ Chã de Branquinho; Morrinho de Égua/ Água Margosa/ Martiene; Rota de Nhô Muchim-Chã de Morte/ Coice de Chã/ Alto Mira; and Rota dos Flagelados-Chã Feijoal, Curral das Vacas/ Chã de Alecrim/ Cabouco Silva.
Improvements in Ribeira Grande are concentrated on two main trails: Boca Ambas Ribeiras- Celada de Mocho-Chã de Igreja and Corda,-Estravessas- Figueiral- Coculi.
In the municipality of Paúl, the interventions will be on two different trails: Pico da Cruz- Santa Isabel- Eito; and Pico da Cruz-Pé de Eucalipto.
These works to restore the tourist trails in Santo Antão are valued at around 25,000 escudos, and will significantly boost nature tourism, favoring the region’s economy and offering enriching experiences to tourists.
