Under the protocol established between the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) and the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG), two awareness-raising actions on GBV, SE, SEA and SA took place on February 26 and 27 in the Pensamento and São Pedro neighborhoods, as part of the Human Capital Project activities.
The main focus of this initiative was to address sensitive issues such as Gender-Based Violence (GBV), sexual exploitation (SE), sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA), sexual harassment (SEA) and violence against children with the families benefiting from the housing rehabilitation program.
The main aim of this action was to make the beneficiaries aware of these specific forms of violence, providing information on how they can happen, while educating and contributing to a culture of prevention. We sought to encourage the building of an informed, empathetic and committed community with these social problems, preventing their occurrence. The families were also made aware of the Human Capital Project’s Complaints Management Mechanism and the forms and channels available for making a complaint.
It is important to note that this activity is part of the Environmental and Social Safeguards of the projects managed by the UGPE and financed by the World Bank. The UGPE teams are represented by the Environmental and Social Specialist, Larissa Varela and the Social Specialist, Ermelinda Lima, and the ICIEG teams are represented by the Psychologists Katia Furtado and Jandira Tavares.
