World Bank mission assesses health infrastructure progress in Santo Antão and São Vicente

On March 24 and 25, a team from the World Bank and UGPE visited the islands of Santo Antão and São Vicente as part of the mission to Support the Implementation of COVID-19 Response and Health Security Projects in Cape Verde, which runs from March 24 to 28. The purpose of the trip was to make technical visits and hold meetings to assess the progress of health infrastructure works on these islands.

The team’s agenda included visits to the Ribeira das Patas Health Center, in the municipality of Porto Novo, where they analyzed the progress of the work and assessed the materials needed to complete it. The team also visited the land earmarked for the construction of the Monte Sossego Health Center, allowing them to talk to those responsible about the next steps and the measures needed to ensure that the work progresses efficiently.

At the Dr. Baptista de Sousa Hospital, they accompanied the installation of the CT scanner, discussing the current status of the project and the challenges related to implementing this technology. This equipment is essential for improving the hospital’s diagnostic capacity and expanding access to imaging tests in the country.
