On Monday, April 1st, the World Bank began a mission to support the implementation of the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project in Cape Verde.
In addition to meetings with the main beneficiaries and the UGPE to discuss the status of procurement and implementation of key activities, the team held a briefing with the National Planning Director, Gilson Pina. During the meeting, crucial issues were addressed, such as the importance of focusing efforts on the private tourism sector to boost the economy and increase the country’s competitiveness.
Another relevant point discussed was the development of the infrastructures planned for the project on different islands, including Sal Island, Santiago, Santo Antão and São Vicente.
The briefing was attended, in addition to the DNP, by the project manager, Aguinaldo Marçal, and the Director of Resource Mobilization Services, Carla Semedo, among other World Bank experts who followed the meeting online.
The mission is scheduled to take place from April 1 to 9, with the aim of supporting the country in implementing the project, supervising the progress of the work plan approved for 2024 and evaluating the activities included in the Second Additional Financing.
During the mission, meetings will also be held with key government partners, including the Ministry of Finance and Business Development, the Ministry of Transport and Tourism, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Territorial Planning and Housing, the Ministry of the Sea and the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, as well as local team members on the islands of Santiago and São Vicente.
