Following the introductory mission carried out in November 2021, a World Bank team is in Cape Verde to prepare the negotiation of the “Resilient Tourism Development and Blue Economy Project”.
The project aims to increase the geographic scope and depth of tourism’s contribution to the economy in a sustainable manner, thereby involving and benefiting a wide range of beneficiaries across civil society, private and public sectors in Cape Verde.
The project’s development objective is to support a more diversified tourism offer and greater participation of SMEs in tourism-related value chains in targeted destinations, and to primarily support the government’s objective of promoting sustainable tourism and natural resource conservation with benefits to local communities through a series of integrated and cross-sectoral interventions.
The project proposes to develop a new integrated development model that addresses the constraints to unlocking tourism and blue economy potential in selected destinations.
The focus of this project centers on developing integrated and resilient tourism and blue economy infrastructure worth $22.32 million and improving inclusive and sustainable tourism management in the blue economy worth $12.20 million.
