The opening ceremony of the training of the “I Sport Census” took place on the afternoon of this Monday, February 14, at the National Stadium, and was chaired by the Sports Sector Administrator of the Institute of Sport and Youth (IDJ), Manuel Sena de Barros, in the presence of the President of the National Institute of Statistics, Osvaldo Cruz and the Manager of the Project for Harmonization and Improvement of Statistics in West Africa, José Moniz.
On the occasion, the Special Projects Management Unit – UGPE was represented by the Manager of the Project for the Harmonization and Improvement of Statistics in West Africa, José Moniz, a project that according to him is focused on several areas, and this time Sports was contemplated.
In his speech, the manager clarified that, in addition to Africa, this process of harmonization and improvement must be expanded at the national level, and in this specific case, he explained that through this census it will be possible to know the sports situation in the country, and consequently improve management and administration of the Cabo Verdean Sports System, based on real indicators.
The 1st Sports Census is an initiative of the Institute of Sports and Youth, in partnership with the National Institute of Statistics, funded by the World Bank, through the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) and will be carried out throughout the country from February to March 2022.
This project aims to learn and inventory a set of statistical data and indicators on national sports, in order to provide managers of the national sports system with credible, up-to-date information to assist decision making and the definition of assertive policies for the sector.
It should be noted that this training action will take place from the 14th to the 19th of this month, and aims to train field agents, including surveyors and supervisors, in the city of Praia, who will collect data for the 1st Sports Census in Cabo Verde.
Recall that the 1st Sports Census consists of the survey and registration of a set of statistical data and indicators on national sports, in order to provide the managers of the national sports system with credible, up-to-date information to assist decision making and the definition of assertive policies for the sector.
