Human Capital Project supervision mission

The World Bank’s supervision mission to support the implementation of the Human Capital Project began on Monday 18th, with the aim of monitoring its progress and discussing actions to speed up its implementation, as well as redesigning some activities.

 

The main areas of focus include: curriculum reform, teacher training, learning assessments in education; grants program for skills development, monitoring studies of vocational training graduates and support for the School of the Sea (EMAR); productive inclusion program and childcare services and housing activities.

 

During the first day of the mission, the World Bank team met with government authorities responsible for education, vocational training, social protection and housing, including the Ministry of Finance and Business Development, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Family, Inclusion and Social Development, and the Ministry of Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Housing, to discuss the progress of the project’s actions.

 

Field visits are scheduled on the island of Santiago to see on the spot the progress made in rehabilitating houses in the municipality of Praia, especially in the São Pedro and Pensamento neighborhoods.

 

The mission runs from March 18 to 22, 2024, and will be accompanied by the UGPE Coordinator, Nuno Gomes and the project manager, Clarisse Silva. The team is led by Senior Education Specialist Emily Gardner and co-lead Social Protection Specialist Laura Bermeo, and includes specialists from other areas such as Financial Management, Procurement and Social Development, as well as the Social Protection Consultant.

 

At the end of the mission, an Aide Memoire will be shared, summarizing the main discussions and agreements reached during the mission.
